I have been in the affiliate marketing game for about a year now. I won't kid you and tell you I make a lot of money. I won't show you these phenomenal reports about how much I make. I make enough to cover my costs and a little more to help out with the bills. The one phenomenal thing is that I have not lost money like most affiliate marketers do initially. Now, you may wonder why this is. I'll tell you why, I am an honest affiliate marketer.

There is a difference between those that market an affiliate product honestly and those that put deceptive and most times T&A violations into practice. The one difference is that honest affiliate marketers usually make a lot less money because some of the deceptive practices are not caught by the affiliate programs and it's hard to compete against practices such as giving out free bonuses with a purchase or rebates, although this practice is a violation of many affiliate programs T&A.

Another main difference is that in the long run we are usually better marketers because we're honest. These days most people want to deal with honest people, not those who are putting forth their best effort to deceive and go to any length even if it is dishonest to sell their affiliate product. However, the attraction of something free usually gets the buyers attention or better yet a rebate. Even I was tempted to put this into practice, but then decided I did not want to go to that level. I wanted to remain honest.

Here are some things you can do to remain an honest, and in the long run a successful affiliate marketer:

              • 3. Make sure you try out the products before you sell them in earnest. When I say in earnest, I mean don't rave about a product if you don't know whether it works or if the vendor is honest. Descriptive links are fine, but never tell a client you have used a product if you haven't.
              • 4. Set up a product review page for those who have bought a product through you to comment on. You can then put this into an RSS feed and have it on your site for those who are considering buying the product to read.

All in all, you may be slow to build your affiliate marketing business by being honest, but in the long run you will be successful and consistent because people in general like to buy from people they can trust.
