Like all great truths, theyPerformance and behaviour management is by far the most difficult aspect of any manager’s job and the reluctance to ‘grasp the nettle’ when performance or behaviour issues emerge is certainly a concern in many organisations. But at the end of the day that is what managers are paid to do and not doing so will certainly affect service, team morale, sales and ultimately the bottom line. Why does this reluctance exist, why do so many mangers back away from confrontation? The problems and challenges that need to be overcome are many and the common reasons and ‘excuses’ for not doing so are as follows:It is Risky – There is a worry in the back of the manager’s mind that discussions could turn into heated arguments and that they may open themselves up for harassment or bullying accusations. There is also a concern that team moral and motivation may be damaged by tackling an under-performer and that the team may even turn against the manager. It is Complicated and Difficult– Performance and behaviour m What is a Resume? Like all great truths, they What I Do g a sales force that causes the employing company to expand through increasing sales.I believe this about public relations.People act on their own perception of the facts before them, which leads to predictable behaviors about which something can be done. So, when we create, change or reinforce that opinion by reaching, persuading and moving-to-desired-action those people whose behaviors affect the organization, the public relations mission is accomplished. That fundamental premise grew out of many years in the public relations business. A time when I became increasingly appalled at what many general management people believe about public relations, if anything, and how the discipline does or does not fit into their organization's strategic plan. The result is, I've become a "preacher," but not to public relations practitioners. Rather, I direct my commentary to those general management people who, daily, pursue their goals and objectives largely without the insights, behavioral strategies and sheer power public relations can bring to the table. He This is done by the following general steps: Training sales staff to be able to sell the company product in large volume; correcting how sales presentations are made; handling any customer flaps his sales people make; and then testing and hiring more sales people, to create an ever increasing sales force. If he doesn’t, the company cannot expand. When you’re a leader, you have to look and sound like a leader -- every time you speak. Your organization's success and your reputation are on the line. Try this:1. Project an Authentic Sense Of Presence. You don’t have to wow your audience with charisma. But you do have to let them know who you are and what you stand for. Speak with conviction about what matters to you, and let your image take care of itself. Be your best self, speaking the truth as you know it, and audiences will think you’re charismatic even if you don’t.2. Build Each Speech Around a Single, Clear Message. The more you try to say in a speech, the less you will accomplish. Whittle your message down to one sharp idea. Make it as pointed as possibly. Say it in as few words as necessary. Say it again, if it bears repeating. Maybe even say it a third time. Then sit down.3. Serve the Best Interests of Your Audience. Leaders -- good ones, at least -- are servants. So are good speakers.
