    Leather Jackets
A leather jacket is a waist or thigh length coat made using leather. Leather jackets are made from animal hides and are usually available in dark colors such as black, brown and dark grey.Leather jackets may be worn either for protection or to make a fashion statement. There is a substantial difference between the two types. Jackets designed for fashion purposes may just provide warmth and not safety. Leather jackets designed for protective use are meant to protect the person wearing them from serious injury. A fashion leather jacket is not likely to be of much help in the event of an accident.Leather jackets are not necessarily meant only for special occasion wear; they can stand up to the rigors of everyday life, as well as serve as evening wear. This type of clothing has achieved an iconic status in the 20th century, thanks largely to the movies. It has become associated with various subcultures over the course of the last century. For instance, leather jackets have often been associated with bikers, pilots, punks and police officers.Leather fashion has been around for a long time and is acceptably appropriate for every time and occasion. It is a perfect blend of style and comfort and could also be just what on

The New Wave in Small Business Financing
This is HUGE. This is tsunami in the making. Small business financing is on the brink of tapping into billions and billions of dollars that previously shut it out.The signs are quiet. One venture capital firm announced that it had just funded an internet startup for $250,000. Another announced it had just brought in a new partner whose previous background was in angel investment. A third announced it would be sending a senior partner to a business plan competition.Don’t get me wrong. Every one of these things has happened many times before. But this time it is different. This time they are announcing it.One of the closest guarded secrets in venture capital is that venture capital firms do indeed make small investments, and have for as long as anyone can remember. These small loans are typically made to startups that just need a jolt of cash to get to the first stage, to give them breathing room to get a prototype made or have a marketing study completed. The venture firm typically takes a first option on future investments for these small investments, plus a bit of stock or interest or whatever. The reasoning behind the small investments was never to make money, and these investments didn’t make mo
    Mentoring

Becoming a confidant—leading through the use of past examples and experience. Mentoring is providing guidance, support and training to expedite the development of someone that has the potential to become an effective leader. Mentoring helps define ones purpose, values, skills and unique talents.

Succession isn’t limited to the President of the organization. In a privately held business, succession can be extremely important at a number of critical positions within the company. These positions may include VP of Operations, VP of Sales, Logistics and even front line Sales Management. Success of your company is directly dependent on the people you surround yourself with. To leverage your success and maintain competitive advantage, succession must become part of your strategic initiatives.

Classroom training is also not the only answer to improving the effectiveness of leaders and potential leaders in your company. In fact, it may have the smallest impact on their progress. Actual experiences and learning from those experiences is a key part of the development process. Mentoring is essential to this experienced based learning. The Squirrel Effect
An industrious black-tailed ground squirrel has his home beneath a stump not far from my office window. I’ve been watching him squirrel away provisions for winter. He reminds me of people I’ve worked with.Starting his journey by standing tall on the stump, the squirrel hurriedly looks side to side. When he’s certain it is safe he leaps into the grass, jumping then running to a group of nuts nestled beneath a medium-size pine. There he briefly pauses to make his choice. Selecting one pine nut in his teeth, he darts back to the stump with a run-jump motion. Once again standing tall, he looks for competitors or predators before quickly popping his prized provision into his nest and beginning the process all over again.Like that squirrel, people often hide what they consider important to their personal survival in the corporate world. It’s called information. Hoarding bits and pieces, they act as if information alone is a work-life sustaining nutrient. The more information nuggets they have, the safer or more powerful they think they’ll be. And while those nuggets might help someone survive in a corporate culture where information is a bartered commodity, long term it won’t help them thrive. Here’s why. They’re locked

    An Old Icon is Bygone!
I just read a report that a long-time Colorado Springs business has closed its doors. Michelle’s was one of those locally owned and operated businesses that lasted for four generations. It was a place where those of us who grew up here remember visiting as a child, took dates to as a teenager and treated the kids to a sundae as an adult. While I reminisce and get all wrapped up in nostalgia I’m also frustrated and appalled. In the news report I read the owner of the shop stated “When we opened up there were a few restaurants downtown, but now there are hundreds and coping was hard." I have no other response than what a poor excuse.I can tell you exactly what happened. Poor management. Unfortunately we’re experiencing this just about everywhere, whether at a local establishment or a chain. Management is just not taking the time to properly train and supervise its staff. What happened to Michelle’s is a prime example of this problem.Over the years, the level of service and the customer service at Michelle’s severely degraded. The past few years it became so bad that my family and I just stopped going. When you have such a large and loyal customer base and they can’t even take it any more, there’s a big pro

Even the most coveted and powerful position in the world, the Presidency of the United States, only lasts 4 or 8 years.Your only job security lies in self-security. There aren’t many successful people in life that haven’t had the help of someone along the way. That help may have appeared in the form of a role model, the support of a particular group, a personal friend and confidant or a hands on mentor. Mentoring involves commitment and a long-term relationship that an experienced leader makes to support the professional development of a prot?g?. It can be a formal or an informal process. Since this process is so valuable, many companies are looking for ways to create formal mentoring programs. It is really all about leadership development.
