Job Search Lessons from the 2006 Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is a game but, like sports in general, it offers useful life lessons that we can take with us . . . if we only look below the surface. As I watched the game, I saw a number of things. How many did you see?1. As I pointed out last year, winning is a team effort. That was never more obvious than this year when the Steeler offense was going no where for most of the first half and the SeaHawk offense was moving the ball almost at will. All of the focus prior to the game was on the offenses and, in particular, the match up between the quarterbacks. But Pittsburgh’s Roethlisberger started horribly, piutting pressure on the defense. Seattle moved the ball against the defense but could not “seal the deal” with points as John Madden said d

Applying Positioning Strategies to Boost Profits
As human beings we tend to label things, to generalize things, to simplify, so that we can assimilate the tons and tons of information that are being dumped our way every single waking hour. We become so good at it that it becomes a subconscious activity. To demonstrate:You won’t notice your breathing pattern (until I mentioned it), the weight of your body on your bum that is being supported by the chair (until I mentioned it), even your urge to blink right now. You just blinked didn’t you?Ok, Ok, so what has that got to do with increasing profits? Simple! We tend to shut out things that are ‘common occurrence’, ‘the norm’, and ‘the standard’ in favor of paying attention to things that stand out and are different. Knowin
U.S.P., in marketing, is the acronym for unique selling proposition. This is asking, "What distinguishes you from similar products or services, even businesses as a whole?"

After using the USP method to uncover the uniqueness of my products and services, I continued to find them difficult to name. Because of this, I developed a list of 50 easy-to- answer questions to help me get through the process quickly. [Please allow product and service to mean the same thing for simplicity sake in this article.

First, select an equal playing competitor. If not equal, choose one that is as closely matched as possible. Even if you are selling apples, be careful on the choice of characteristics. A Granny Smith apple is different from a Winesap apple. Both are consumed by similar markets but they have much different uses in cooking. Be mindfully open, somewhere there is a similar apple -- guaranteed.

    Systems Of Organization Approach
Among contributors to the work of the Behavioral School there was Maslow, who explored personality and motivation during 1940s, although not specifically within the workplace. Maslow posited a hierarchy of needs – ranging through physiological needs ultimately to self--actualization. As lower level needs are satisfied individuals will seek to move to the next level. When physiological needs are met say through monetary reward they will satisfy their safety needs by seeking say job security. Other research and writing on workplace motivation was developed from Maslow’s work including McGregor, Herzberg and Alderfer who improved upon Maslow’s original work.Organizations began to be seen as socio-technical systems by Trist and Bamforth who resea

    Career Choices; Buying a Franchise?
Many people wish to work for themselves and owning your own business is a career choice, which should be considered if you are a motivated self-starter. Considering a franchise is also a good choice if you have never run a business before and leaving Corporate America for self-employment and making this part of your dream. In Franchising much is based on your ability and business acumen, if you run your business properly, good customer service you win, if you chase customers away and a lets say you own a Coffee Franchise and a competing company, Starbucks moves in nearby you have to work twice as hard, that is called competition. There are also other risks and also realize that location is a consideration, Anchor Stores, traffic flows, weat

I like to use the abbreviation’s S and D (similar/different). If you didn’t come up with anything or your list is small, that is okay, this happens to me a lot. Your mind isn’t seeing them. The questions below will build on your list and expand your view.

If you offer a new service, match target markets, and select one that is less than two years ahead of your success. If their product is too far ahead, you will suffer from "measurement stress". This will please your inner critic but test your passion and sabotage your commitment.
