    Clever Online Business Advertising
Creative and clever advertising - Internet marketing online businesses depend on it. Advertising is the key to any successful online business. Considering how many others are competing for your customer's money, it is not surprising that advertising, online marketing, and promoting on the Internet have become something that every entrepreneur who took an onli

Having said that, if I had it to do over again, I would DEFINITELY make sure the business name I wanted was available as a URL.

I am hard-pressed to think of any type of business these days that could not benefit from having a web site.

Consumers just assume if you're in business that you have a web site. If they don't know your web site address, they type your business name into a search engine.

Or, they add ".com" to the end of your business name to see what comes up.

What Domain Name Should You Use?

For these reasons it's important to not just have a web site, but to also have a domain name or URL (e.g. www.10stepmarketing.com), that matches your business name.

That's why it is so important when selecting a business name, to also check to see if the domain is available.

Don't Make the Mistake I Made

I made the mistake of NOT doing this when I started my marketing consulting business eight years ago. I simply picked a name for my business and off I went.

At the time, I didn't feel it was necessary to have a web site. So I never even considered looking to see if the name of my business was available as a domain name.

Fast-forward a few years. Suddenly the web is taking off. And I realize I need a web site for my marketing consulting business.

Unfortunately, when I checked to see if www.dlcmarketing.com was available, it was not.

Some networking marketing company in Washington had already registered the name and put up a web site.

So I was stuck. Not only did I NOT get a domain name to match my business name, but I now face the risk of people finding HIS web site when they are looking for my business online.

    Not a great scenario.

There are options if the domain name you want is not available. You just have to get creative. Which is what I had to do.

I registered http://www.dlcmktg.com. Not ideal, but it works. And, since most of my consulting business comes through referrals, my web site isn't a major business driver.

Having said that, if I had it to do over again, I would DEFINITELY make sure the business name I wanted was available as a URL.
