Identifying Potential in Ourselves and Others
If there is someone nearby as you read this look in their eyes.  Look closely and you will see great potential inside this person regardless of how “successful” or accomplished they are.  If you are alone, get up, find a mirror, and look in your own eyes.  There is great potential there too! If you don’t believe this premise - that great potential is inside each of us - there is no reason to continue reading.  Why?  Because this article will give you concrete steps to help you recognize and find that potential in yourself and others.  If you don’t believe it is there, it will be pretty hard to find it. (Ok, I’m glad you are still reading!) Identifying Our Own Potential I know you may be reading this thinking about how you can coach, mentor and lead others – and you really are more interested in focusing on others.  This is admirable and we’ll get there in a few minutes, however in order to help others most effectively, we need to know how it works ourselves, and by working on ourselves we are in an even better position to help others. 1. Be introspective.  Spend time alone with your thoughts.  Consider these questions and use them as a starting point.  You are trying to open your mind and find your strengths, passions and goals.  By thinking about these things and making some notes in a journal you will be opening your mind to y

Is Capitalism and Cutthroat Competition Killing Our Environment?
Some believe that Rapid Industrialization and cutthroat competition causes a killing of our environment. Does it? Or is mankind simply to blame? Native Indians are known to have burned down forests to chase their prey out of the tree lines or move neighboring tribes out of their territorial perceived regions. However this topic did come up recently in an online think tank. One Thinker Karishma States regarding issues of capitalism and environment the following; “In this world of cutthroat competition and rapid industrialization, sometimes I tend to wonder on how the importance and relevance of environmental effects is completely lost.”Actually I take exception to these comments. Personally I feel they are attacking me. I am an entrepreneur. I win markets, I participate in free markets, I deliver the goods and services that you as a citizen desire. You want it; I produce it. Yes I am competitive and yes I as an entrepreneur compete and yes I win. Now in my retirement I moderate this Think Tank Online Forum; but during my reign in my Industry that cutthroat competition propelled my to help the environment and compete. And do it more efficiently as well; let me give you some examples. As you trash verbally everything I am about and condemn me the entrepreneur. I believe you should read Ayn Rand. Here are just a few things I brought to the common good in the “Environmental Realm” in my industry; In today's tough retail environment the retailer needs all the tools he can get to help improve efficiency, productivity, and the bottom line. Two of these tools are the company's Policy Manual and Procedure Manual.

In working with independent retailers throughout the country we have found that the majority do not have written policies and procedures. When questions or problems arise concerning the store's policies or procedures the store owner/manager handles them on an individual basis. The problem with this approach is that it takes too much of management's time and can lead to inconsistency in dealing with company policy and procedures.

Employees respond well to an environment in which company policies are well defined and equitably and consistently enforced. Therefore, having a written Policy Manual and Procedure Manual can make a store a better employer and a stronger profit maker. The Policy Manual will give the employees the information they need concerning company regulations and policies and will support managem

Entrepreneurial Failure - Get Used to It
To be a successful entrepreneur you are going to have to learn to deal with failure. There is no way around it. Thomas Edison tried over ten thousand different experiments before he finally demonstrated the first incandescent light bulb on October 21, 1879. Bill Gates' first company, Traf-O-Data, was a failure. Michael Jordan was once quoted as saying: "I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot; And missed. I've failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."In my short stint as an entrepreneur I've failed more times than I can count. I have also had my share of success, but it’s not even close to equal. The failures far outweigh the successes, and I’m sure I have a lot more failure ahead of me. I’m OK with that because I know that as soon as I stop failing, I have stopped trying to innovate. It's the nature of the business of being an entrepreneur, and of success in general. If it were easy, everyone would do it. It is naive to think that every good idea that you have will result in a successful business venture. I have yet to hear an entrepreneur say "every single idea I come up with seems to work." More likely, you hear something like "I failed at my first five businesses before this one took off."Think about that for a second. Five businesses. Sometimes the number is three, some

    Nevada Corporation FAQs
Many business owners opt to incorporate their business to protect themselves and the business from unanticipated losses and liabilities. Both small as well as large businesses can be incorporated. It is possible to incorporate businesses in any state in the United States, regardless of where the business is operated. Many business owners choose to incorporate their businesses in Delaware or Nevada, as they are very corporate-friendly. Nevada has highly favorable corporate laws. Many new business owners and small business owners lack adequate knowledge about the corporate laws prevailing in Nevada. The most frequently asked questions about Nevada corporations, include what are the different types of corporation entities, the process of incorporation, and what are the advantages of Nevada corporations.A corporation is considered as a separate legal entity. If the corporation is sued, the business owners and the officials are protected from personal liability.Business owners have to select the type of entity that best suits their business. An S-corp refers to a corporation that has elected a special tax status. A C-corp type of corporation pays their tax directly to the IRS. LLC or limited liability company is an unincorporated legal entity created under state law.The process of incorporating in Nevada is similar to other states. Obsession With Triviality - An Opinion
In the world today, particularly in this country, there seems to be total obsession with the most trivial of affairs in every day life. In the midst of international disasters, there seems to be unhealthy interest in the incarceration of a totally self-indulgent offspring of one of the nation's oldest and most aristocratic families. In the midst of world turmoil, is this really that important? With the pending national election of a new president, and a large number of candidates in the race, much more television time is given to the childish cat fight of a pair of stars of a daily talk show, supposedly for the females of the morning. These two allegedly intelligent ladies of the morning talk show became embroiled in what might be considered an exchange of words that would have been appropriate to the green room and not aired on national television. To borrow a phrase from a well know tele personality, "Give me a break!"But this little nonsensical exchange of words is the talk of the town. Even the Donald got involved. Or, at least, involved himself. Sure does smack of playground spats that we all remember and know about. The point here, where is all this childish nonsense going to end? Is this more important than the real issues of the nation and the world. In some spots in the world, people are dying and we seem to be interested in a couple of tele hot shots airing their differences while

Infrastructure - Enabler of a Higher Productivity (2)
We know infrastructure from such basic things as gas, water and electricity. They have always been there and they are so basic that you do not know what to do when it is not there. A day without electricity during a hot summer can give a real problem. Internet is also part of infrastructural support. One important characteristic of infrastructure is that it serves a group of people in the same way. It comes with a standard. The water you tap from your home is of the same quality as the water you will find in a restaurant. But the level of an infrastructure could vary from one supplier to the other and according to the service level you have contracted it.Internet is again a good example. The penetration of internet is very high in most countries, but the quality if the connection shows also a high variety; from a simple modem connections to a high-speed broadband connection. Without digging in to theoretical foundations we can easily see that a high-speed connection will increase our productivity -- if all other aspects are left the same; you have to wait less and you are able to access more functionality (video, news) etc. that was otherwise out of your scope. For the content part, internet has also increased our productivity. We are able to reserve online, we can lookup a roadmap, we can exercise an online assessment without leaving your desk, and the main search function served for general in
ure Manual can make a store a better employer and a stronger profit maker. The Policy Manual will give the employees the information they need concerning company regulations and policies and will support management in enforcing them. A Procedure Manual will give the employees instructions on HOW to do their job. It can be used both as a training manual and an on-going reference manual.

If your store does not have both a Policy Manual and a Procedure Manual, make a commitment to begin this important project immediately. If you do have these manuals, take some time to review them and verify that they are up-to-date and include all the information your employees need to be more productive and efficient.

POLICY MANUAL There is much information concerning the company that employees need to know and management is obligated to tell them. The best method for disseminating this information is by providing it to the employees in the form of a written Policy Manual.

A written store policy manual is also an important manageme
