Focus on Brand - Courtesy of EasyJet's Stelios
A few days ago, I mentioned that an easyJet flight to Venice had provided me with an insight to Stelios (Haji-Ioannou), the founder of the ground-breaking low-cost airline, which has revolutionised European air travel. He was listing his top five things he 'wished I had known when I started'.Previously I mentioned that he wished he'd been 'clear on his strengths and delegated the rest'. If you missed it you can find this on the 18th of November entry of my blog, through the link at the bottom of the article.Number two on his list states:-"Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Focus - on your job, on your brand."This seems a bit of a contradiction to me, but the essence of the best part of what he said, for me is the second bit:-

Career Choices; Are Franchisors Deceptive in Selling Franchises?
Most of us at one time or another have considered starting a business of our own and perhaps considered one of the 3,000 franchises available in the United States. Many say that franchisors are deceptive in their offerings yet as a Board of Director Member of the American Franchisee and Dealers Association, I never found this to be the case. Sure there were cases where a salesman may have over sold a unit, but this was certainly not the franchisors policies. After all a Franchise is like a marriage and starting out on the wrong foot like that makes no sense at all. In studying this over the years I had discovered that the average franchisee who has filed a complaint with the government is 75% at fault and lied in those complaints at least once 85% of the time. The average franchisee lies on their resume, team

    Focusing on Consistency (Part 1)
When we aim for consistency in our communications, values, messages, images, offerings, and the customer experiences we create, we take another significant step toward developing long-lasting and meaningful customer relationships that will boost our bottom line.We know that as consumers, we are able to exercise our choices to achieve the most enjoyable and efficient experiences possible. But whenever we are unhappy consumers, how likely are we to complain about it?Research shows that only a small fraction of customers will inform a company of what they dislike. The majority of silent, unhappy buyers "vote with their feet" and simply don't return. Sam Walton, the late Wal Mart founder, said: "There is only one boss: the customer. And he can fire everybody in the company, from the chairman on down, sim

    Business is an Evil Game
Many say that business is an evil game and is for evil people. They say you have to be dishonest if you are a CEO. They say that most entrepreneurs are rich because they cheat and screw over the little guy. Some even go so far as to say that the difference between a CEO or Entrepreneur and a criminal is merely luck and family name?I totally disagree; not that there are not some crooked businessmen or women, but that the root of the problem has nothing to do with money or the game of business. If you have a completely free market where customers vote with their dollar you will find all business people compete and have to better their products in order to compete and those who cheat are found out quickly and the patronage comes to a halt. The reason that one could say that the game of business is evil, is beca

How many times over the years have you witnessed otherwise savvy professionals self-destruct because they wouldn’t engage out of a fear of conflict? Putting one’s head in the sand and hoping that conflict will pass you by is not the most effective methodology for problem solving. Conflict rarely resolves itself…In fact, conflict normally
