China Business Negotiation - Understanding the Culture
Business negotiation in China can be very a frustrating exercise for western business executives. The Chinese business culture and deliberate style of negotiation is vastly different from the more direct western approach. It is easy to lose perspective and patience and ultimately fail in reaching the desired agreement.European and American business men and women are accustomed to a straight-forward style of negotiation. Both par

    War Of the Names
Winning battles left and right is as common as breathing for Tom Cruise. This two-time Forbe's world's most powerful celebrity has scored another win on a battle that could have stolen his name. In July 25th, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) awarded Tom Cruise full custody of the domain name TomCruise.com over the cyber squatter Jeff Burgar. The WIPO said that Burgar blatantly used the website to sell goods th
In all honesty, probably both! LEAN and Six Sigma are perfect partners and provide great synergy and complement each other nicely. Often I meet people who are unsure which approach to take and therefore delay in doing either. This means that they are losing valuable time in being able to make the changes to improve organisational performance. It is possible to start on one track and, along the way, find that your focus changes as you learn more about your processes and systems.

Looking at a process or system to decide which approach to use isn’t always black and white. A lot depends on the culture of the organisation and what type of data is available.

Organisations that are driven by objectivity and have many Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) will often find more comfort in the Six Sigma approach. This is a result of the perception that it is more “scientific” as it appears to be complex because of the statistical tools that can be applied. Those companies that are more subjective and intuitive feel more comfortable with the LEAN approach. To them, it seems less daunting as it does not rely on high order statistics in analyzing situations and tends to focus on team activities and employee engagement in solving problems.

Background Check: Be Prepared for What Future Employers Might Find
Do you know what to expect when applying for a new job? Most job seekers are under the impression that employers only check the references listed on your resume or application. This is an inherently false assumption. A recent People Search News article reported that more than 80% of all business now performs comprehensive background checks on all potential employees, compared to less than half that number 10 years ago. Also, the size

    Frameworks in Nursing Theory
Nursing theory is the term given to the body of wisdom that is used to support nursing practice. In their professional education, nurses will study a range of interconnected subjects which can be applied to the practice setting. This knowledge may come from experiential learning, from formal sources such as nursing research or from non-nursing sources.Nursing theories provide a framework for nurses to systematize their nursing

Car Wash Guys; A Franchising Case Study
The Car Wash Guys is a franchise system, which had never been done before in the Industry of Car Washing, as it was a mobile car wash. It started out in California with independent contractors and quickly grew to 53 units in 39 cities within a 4-year period and then the company decided to franchise the concept. No such variation in this business structure or variation of franchising had ever been tried. The company had so many

Work At Home Data Entry Jobs Are All Scams!
Every where you look you see someone advertising data entry jobs. Unfortunately because there are so many people looking for work from home data entry jobs, scam artists prey on this. After all, job seekers looking for data entry jobs are an easy mark.I know that sounds cold but it's the truth. I speak from my own experience because data entry at home jobs was the only type of work I wanted initially too. What's not to love ab

Often people describe continuous improvement programs as a journey. If we consider the LEAN journey then I would say that Six Sigma can be used as a stop-over along the way. For instance, an organisation on the LEAN journey finds that it has a specific problem with yield in a particular department or a specific piece of equipment then area is a likely candidate for a Six Sigma project. This means that the organisation can still proceed under the LEAN umbrella but acknowledge that there is a specific activity that can benefit from the Six Sigma approach. To make things easier it may also be beneficial to engage an expert in Six Sigma for that activity so that the organisation maintains their LEAN focus.

Similarly, those undertaking a whole of business approach using Six Sigma as the process improvement vehicle can find that as part of the Improve phase there are opportunities to implement LEAN approaches. For instance, a manufacturing operation that uses Six Sigma finds that there is a high degree of variability in the setup and changeover times for equipment in various departments. Analysis sh
