It is obvious that it is concerned with culture and with climate zone and with the composition of the population (for instance, in multi-national countries people are more tolerant to the customs and traditions of others and sometimes traditions get mixed and intertwined).

Nevertheless, the people of different nations long for each other! People abroad are looking for something that their society has lost. It turns out that the difference attracts people, but at the same time it causes conflicts.

A simple example. One of our couples is waiting for a fianc?e visa, the groom writes in the letter to his bride that when she comes to America, she will find the full wardrobe of clothes for herself which used to be his sister’s. She died from cancer at the young age, that’s why all her clothes are modern and in good state. I don’t know if it is really common to wear the clothes that belonged to the deceased? Tell me about it! Because recently the stories like this happen quite often: some men even bring things of the deceased as a gift, as a souvenir, as a keepsake. Judging by this I can conclude that American people think that’s ok. However, it will shock any Russian!!! Most Russians won’t put on things of the dead. Now imagine yourself in the shoes of this girl: to refuse means to hurt the memory of his sister, but at the same time she won’t be able to wear these clothes. Add to this the hard adaptation period in a new country without relatives and friends. What will she feel?

Certainly, there are exceptions. There are people without any superstitions; there are very poor people who are glad to any clothes. Everything I write about in newsletters is only a general tendency, all people are different. But it is necessary to know about these things if you want to have a Russian wife.

The exception is family relics and jewelry. They are passed on from generation to generation. But people don’t wear these things every day, just keep them and from time to time blow dust off them. :)

Here is one more example of completely different traditions. It is a custom in Russia to give odd number of flowers. Very often our clients order, for example 10 roses and we have to explain each time that odd number of flowers is given only to the dead. There was an incident when a Russian girl slapped a foreign man in the face with the bouquet of 4 roses!!!
