The significance of the covenant idea in the Old Testament can scarcely be overestimated.
The prophets constantly make reference to it by insisting that the fate of Israel will always be determined by the extent to which its people are faithful or unfaithful to the obligations placed upon them by the covenant. When israel entered into a covenant relationship with God, they agreed to all stipulations that were laid down by God. When Israel broke this covenant they became a “Disobedient, Back-sliding and Gain-saying” People.

Rom 10:20-21; But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. ( This was the Gentile race of people) But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gain-saying people. (The word,”gain-saying” means; to contest, argue, dispute, and challenge.)
