This may be seen as a positive and reassuring step, but the fact that this needed to be done in the first place speaks volumes for the relationships between the police and local communities. This is especially so in a country where fear of Asian reprisals after the 7/7 bombings is high.

All of this comes on the backdrop of recent arrests in Birmingham, U.K., of suspects who have been accused of wanting to kidnap young British Muslim soldiers and behead them publicly. It is alleged that videos would have been distributed on the Internet.
