I have visited 37 states and actually found one state that has 5 counties and 5 cities. It has dozens of little villages but only five cities and only one mayor per county! I was amazed.

While I can see the advantage of not having to finance dozens of city halls, fire departments and police departments and the like, I often wonder in this type of political environment, what happens if you wish to run for mayor of your little community! The law in these counties says you can run all you like and call yourself whatever you wish but it will have no legal meaning!

If you are on a cruise ship and you have a legal problem during a visit to a business, you have to call the state police. [Not sure if the county has state police offices everywhere but they better have enough sub-stations to serve everyone in a timely manner!]

Different cities, towns and villages like to have different focuses regarding their ordinances and these can be very positive for the local inhabitants; like on signage, on noise, on parking and the like.

Also business licensure can be fun-some cities charge $150 for an annual business license and others $10.00 for the same thing!

Finally, during voting; I wonder-does each village and township candidate run against the incumbent mayor? Are there, instead of 2-3 candidates for a majority race, 45-90 candidates?
